Care Instructions
Alpaca wool is a durable fibre and naturally odour resistant. To preserve your Unku alpaca wool garment for years to come, we recommend infrequent washing only. Alpaca wool should be left to air after every few wears. Lay it flat in a shaded, well-ventilated area to avoid direct sunlight exposure and humidity. Alpaca wool garments can be spot cleaned with water and a small amount of mild wool detergent.
Washing
To wash your Unku woollen garment, immerse it in cold water, using a mild wool detergent or baby shampoo. Refrain from using bleach or harsh chemicals to maintain the integrity of the fibres. Allow the garment to soak for 5-10 minutes. Gently agitate the water to clean the garment. Take care not to wring or warp the garment when washing. Rinse thoroughly with cold water until all the detergent has been removed.
Drying
Place the garment between two towels and press firmly to remove excess water. Place the garment lying flat on a clean dry towel to dry. Avoid heat and direct sunlight to prevent shrinkage and fading.
Comprehensive cleaning
For comprehensive cleaning or if you are unsure about washing your Unku garment at home, we recommend consulting a professional cleaner who specializes in woolen knitwear.
Storage
To store your Unku alpaca garment, fold it rather than using a hanger. Place it in a drawer or clean cotton garment bag with cedar balls or lavender to repel moths.
Pilling
Should pilling occur, gently remove with a fabric shaver or fine tooth comb.
